MMA

Mixed Martial Arts is a sporting event that is so new, that the term “vintage” cannot really be applied to it yet. However, because it is growing in popularity, it has excellent speculative value, and any investment in items may experience increases in that value over time. For those interested in collecting in this field, stick with those items associated with those who have achieved milestones and set records, have them autographed, and preserve them to keep them from deteriorating.

Hockey

Vintage hockey memorabilia can be a worthwhile pursuit, though its fan base is greater in Canada and Europe than it is in the United States. Collectibles connected to the greats of the game are of greater interest than those that are not. Also, memorabilia from historic events – like the U. S. Olympic hockey team’s “Miracle on Ice” – is sought after, and competition for it is intense.

Golf

The value for vintage golf equipment varies. A hickory-shafted club has limited interest, unless it was the property of someone associated with the history of the game. Golf balls and other equipment fall under the same guidelines. If you are collecting vintage golf memorabilia, look for items from major tournaments and that have a connection to the winner or other historically significant players if the tournament victor upset the favorites.

Football

Vintage football memorabilia, whether professional or collegiate, can be tricky. Those collectibles from historical events, or directly associated with famous players, coaches, or personalities can bring significant returns, no matter the item. Items with game experience that show wear and tear are in demand. If the item is something that should not be damaged (posters, programs, cards) keep them protected to preserve their value.

Boxing

Vintage memorabilia from boxing consists principally of gloves, trunks, robes, shoes, and round bells. Their greatest worth comes from the significance of the fight or the fighter who can be attributed to the equipment. Programs and posters are also of interest, especially if a number of famous fighters appear on them. Autographs increase their value.

Basketball

Professional and Collegiate basketball memorabilia is of interest to collectors, depending on the provenance of the item. Those items having documentation that accompanies them are of the greatest value. Autographed items are of interest as well. Signed programs from games may be sought, if the game was important, or the autographs are from those who are contributors to the games history.
